This is such a beautiful piece, Ellen. Losing my mother to Alzheimer's was a much longer, slower kind of "goodbye," but I recognize so many of the same feelings. And I still catch myself wanting to pick up the phone and call her with questions about how she navigated parenting adult children, my ever changing body, relationships...I suppose that's why girlfriends and creating a community of women in the same space feel like lifelines.
